Village head dies after assault by subject in Bauchi

55-year old village head, Sama’ila Magaji, of Barmo Gwaram in Misau local government area of Bauchi state, was hit on the head during a misunderstanding that ensued between him and one of his subjects and subsequently died in the hospital while receiving treatment.

According to a statement made available to news men in Bauchi yesterday by the Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, a misunderstanding occurred between the village head and one Musa Dantata, of the same village, at about 6a.m. at the weekend, shortly after the early morning prayer.

The statement added that, “As a result, the village head was hit in the head and later died in the hospital while receiving treatment.”

Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), informed that a mob subsequently beat Dantata to a state of stupor, saying that he was currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Misau, the headquarters of the local government area.

He added that the police were currently investigating the case with a view to preventing a recurrence of the incident in the state.
