Date:

•Says they are patriotic

By Musa Baba Adamu

Deputy President of the Senate, Jibrin Barau, yesterday described members of the Senate Press Corp (SPC) as patriotic who had been contributing to the growth of democracy in the country.
Recalling the coverage he received during his time as the Chairman of the Appropriation Commitee of the Senate, Sen. Barau said being easily the most important commitee in the Senate from which Nigerians were always eager to hear from, members of the Corp did not disappoint in that regard.
Thanking the Corp for honouring him with a Card to felicitate him on his emergence as Deputy Senate President, he recalled that he also received similar gesture after wining his election.
He said having come far in his relationship with the Corp, he would ensure that the media men were always carried along during his time as the second in command of the Senate.
He said: “ I won’t take your gestures for granted,” adding that “ I will continue to carry the SPC along.”
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the SPC, Okaodo Itodo said the Corp members were in his office to present him with a Card to felicitate him on his victory.
Describing Sen. Barau as “friend of the house,” Itodo said the Corp believed the Senators had made the right choice in him.
He said the Corp members had no doubt that Sen Barau would continue to be accessible to the Corp members even though his present position had taken “ a bit unreachable.”
