The special adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Ethics and Values, Mrs. Sarah Jibril, has attributed the various crises in Nigeria and the world at large to a loss of ethical values

She spoke yesterday, at a seminar organized by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), with the theme: “The national theology seminar on same sex union.”

Mrs. Jibril said the political and religious imbalance were a backdrop of a refusal to respond to the voice of our conscience which creates ethical values. “Ethics is indispensable to development. The absence of ethics is the beginning of crisis,” she said.

She called on the leadership of the United Nations (UN) to consider the urgent need to set aside a day for celebrating the Human conscience.

Mrs. Jibril said it is a negation of moral order that the UN should set aside a date for celebrating dog bites, but forget to create a day to commemorate our response to human conscience.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the CBCN, Most reverend Joseph Ekwuwem noted that the stand of the church, as was stated in the canon law and indeed in the scriptures is that marriage is a union of a man and a woman. He added that Nigeria will not bend the rules nor change that stand.

Also in his speech, the coordinator of the event, Rev, Fr Moses Iyara noted that the seminar was aimed at further enlightening Nigerians on the need to stay focused against homosexuality.
