The Vice-chancellor of Gombe State University, Prof. Aliyu Usman El-Nafaty, has said the institution will graduate 5,944 students in a combined convocation.
He stated this on Friday during a press conference in preparation for the convocation ceremony scheduled to take place on Saturday the 7th of October 2023.
Prof. El-Nafaty said out of the number of students expected to graduate, 116 had first class degrees, 28 with distinction from non classified degrees, 1,511 with second class upper, 3,326 graduated with second class lower, 801 third class while 162 graduated with pass degrees.
He said 40 percent are females which had increased from 30 percent over the last three years he said.
Explaining further, he said the increas in students population to 18,500 had brought education to door step where the majority are from the catchments areas.
Gombe State University, he said, has a good working relationship with workers’ unions which has never shut down the school due to any unresolved issues he said.
According to him, the institution will also award honorary degrees to distinguished Nigerians which he said the Senate and Governing Council of the university had approved the awards by selecting 7 distinguished personalities.
Those selected by the Governing Council of the university include the vice president Alh. Kashim Shettima Mustapha to be awarded with Honorary Degree of Humane Letters Honoris Causa, Prof. Idris Mohammad will be conferred as Emeritus Professor of Infectious Disease and Immunology among others distinguished personalities.
The Vice-chancellor while appreciating the intervention from TETfund said it has been a pillar of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
