Emir of Gombe, Abubakar is dead

The Emir of Gombe, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar has died yesterday, at a London Hospital while receiving treatment.

Our reporter learnt that the Emir has been sick for some time before he was taken to London for treatment where died in the early hours of yesterday.

Until his death, he was the chairman of the Council of Emirs and Chiefs in Gombe state.

In a tribute to the late Emir yesterday, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar described the deceased as “an ageless achiever who inspired his subjects to seek education as a means of liberation from poverty and ignorance.”

The former VP also said the Emir’s long reign had brought progress and development to his people, “for which reason they adored and respected him as a father and community leader.”

“For now, all I can do is to pray to Almighty Allah to repose his soul and grant his family, his subjects and the entire country the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” Atiku added.
