Northern youth in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under the aegis of the Northern PDP Youth Progressive Alliance (PDPYPA) have expressed implicit confidence in Vice President Namadi Sambo to contest alongside President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
This position is coming few days after an insinuation that certain individuals within the party are pressurizing Jonathan to drop his vice ahead of the oncoming Presidential elections.
The group stated this in a communiqué issued at the end of its one-day executive meeting held in Kaduna.
The communiqué signed by Hon Ahmed Ummar Zico and Alhaji Lawal Isah Dan Fatoma, chairman and secretary respectively, and made available to newsmen, called on all progressive northerners to join hands and defeat the evil forces that are threatening the country.
“We strongly believe in the spirit of continuity in governance as this is the only way we can achieve the much talked about development. We have confidence in Vice President Namadi Sambo, because of their achievement in power reform, establishment of about nine Federal Universities in the North alone, integrated almajiri system of education, the great green wall plan to check desert encroachment in the far north, You Win Program, effective and efficient distribution of farm input to our farmers, among others.
“President Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo have done certain things that only courageous leaders can do. The pains for the ultimate realization of the Nigerian dream of our forefathers can only last for a while. We must concede that the pair of Jonathan/Sambo achieved so much than Obasanjo/Atiku’s eight years in office which was characterized with globetrotting in the name of laundering the image of the country and personality clash they exhibited shamelessly.
“It is on record that the cordial relationship that is existing between President Jonathan and his Vice, Namadi Sambo has been a source of envy in the eyes of people like General Olusegun Obasanjo (rtd), especially when Sambo has been loyal to his boss of whom we urge him to continue,” the group said.
