Black Friday In Benue As Armed Robbers Attack Banks, Kill 3 Police Officers, 4 Others

At least seven persons have been reportedly killed on Friday as armed robbers attacked and robbed several banks in Otukpo local government area of Benue State.

It was learnt from an eye witness who pleaded anonymity, that the robbers said the robbers stormed the banks at about 4:30 pm in two(2)hilux vehicles and one other smaller car to carry out the robbery which lasted about one hour.

He said they shot and killed Police officers and a councillor who was transacting business in one of the affected banks.

The robbers, according to an eye witness had before their operation, attacked the Otukpo Police Station shooting indicriminately
and disarmed all the policemen before carrying out the robbery.

The banks affected include United Bank for Africa, UBA, Zenith Bank and First Bank Plc.

The incident caused apprehension in the home country of the State Deputy Governor Samuel Ode as residents, particularly traders were seen scampering for safety.

When contacted to confirm the incident, the Police Public Relations’ Officer SP Catherine Anene said, “I have not been able to speak with the DPO or any of the officers there but I know there was an incident”.
