Ethiopians lead as ATCN concludes girls motorsport track in Abuja

The Automobile and Touring Club of Nigeria (ATCN) has successfully concluded Girls on Track karting motorsport in Abuja with four drivers emerging as winners of six trophies.
Ethiopian Nice took the overall best driver, followed by Regina and Nigeria’s Khalila Wakama who took third position in the Karting Slalom, while the Ethiopian trio of Regina, Nice and Benedict Hercules went home with first, second and third positions accordingly in the digital motorsport category.
In the digital motorsport category, the Ethiopian trio of Regina, Nice and Benedict Hercules went home with first, second and third positions in that order.
The programme which was sponsored by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) had Michael Ango, African president of the Ethics Committee of FIA, among officials that presented trophies to the winners. All participants were presented with certificates of participation.
More than 100 girls from Nigeria and Ethiopia participated in the three-day competition which took place between November 3-5, 2023, with day one and two commencing at the Light way Academy, Wuse 2, with training of officials on rules and how to officiate karting tracks, while day two witnessed training of about 100 participants on rules of the game between ages 9-16.
Five Ethiopian girls where led by their officials, Dayan Maru, vice president and Dayer Nur, technical head of Ethiopian Motorsport Association respectively.
In the words of ATCN president, Mr. Ishaku Bamayi, “ Girls on Track is a platform for grassroots development of the motorsport in Nigeria among girls” adding that participants should “take advantage of the competition.
