Gombe state government has said N12.8 billion was earmarked for the construction and control of gully eronsion in some affected communities in the state.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya made this known on Wednesday during the official sining of the contract between Gombe state government and Triacta Nigeria limited at the new banquet hall of Government House.
He said the sining of a 21 kilometre FCE (T)-Railway line gully erosion through ACReSAL was government commitment towards addressing environmental challenges which has affected mankind.
The Agro-climate resilience semi Arid landscapes project will help in curtailing the problem he said.
The governor who said Gombe state which is regarded as erosion capital in north eastern part of the country over the yearssaid gully erosion has devastated communities by posting threats to agricultural lands, displacing public and endangering the future of our environment he added.
He said affected areas to benefit the project including London maidorawa, Mallam-inna, Wuro-ladde, Wuro-Kesa, and Kagarawal.
Governor Yahaya also revealed that over 400,000 people live at the corridor of gully erosion with the fear of losing their lives and property, adding that 85 percent of these people are poor and lack resilience to withstand against such menace.
