Coalitions on SDGs calls for local action

The Coalition of Civil Society Organization on SDGs have harped on the need for countries to uplift local actions for the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) due to retrogressive.
The convener of the Civil Society Advance Forum on Sustainable Development (CAS2030) Mrs Caroline Oliseowe while speaking at the Africa-wide multi stakeholders conference on SDGs yesterday in Abuja recalled that the United Nations Secretary General Anthonio Guiterres had expressed concerns over the retrogressing rather than progressing.
The UN chief scribe had regretted that half way the SDGs we cannot achieve more than 12 percent and it’s only two goals that have achieved the 12 percent, and even African countries have not achieved up to the 12 percent.
Hence the need to take decisive actions by taking local actions to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs in the African continent.
Oliseowe stated that the aim of the conference was to discuss local solutions that are available for the implementation of the SDGs while fostering these local actions for global impact.
She mentioned “This conference will specifically hold conversations on new Innovations for localizing the SDGs through local country specific approaches and strategies to address the specific goals for Africa and the agenda 2063 with special focus on climate change, biodiversity, peace and security, partnerships.”
The Continental Chief of Party African Parliamentary Network , Uganda Henry Baynenzaci noted attainment of the SDGs is not all about country or continent but it’s all about everyone in the world working together and building synergies.
The Director General of National Senior Citizen Center tasked the coalition to design strategies that can enable the country attain the SDGs
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Beta Edu also talked the CSOs to come up with home grown solutions to accelerate implementation of the SDGs in Nigeria and Africa in general.
