Simon Ekpa, the prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE), has declared a week-long sit-at-home in the southeast over the continuous detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra.
The Finland-based lawyer and separatist Ekpa disclosed this on Sunday in a public notice.
Accordingly, Ekpa said that sit-at-home will commence on 15th to 19th December 2023.
He noted that the civil disobedience was to demand the immediate release of Mazi Kanu and call the self-referendum of Biafra.
Ekpa added that the sit-at-home is necessary to end the militarization of the southeast region.
He, therefore, calls on Biafrans, traders, market women, and companies to adhere to the sit-at-home notice.
“Following the demand by the Biafra people for more sit-at-home civil disobedience. The Biafra Republic Government In-Exile (BRGIE) wishes to notify Biafrans of sit-at-home civil disobedience from December 15 2023 to December 19 2023.
“To demand the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who remains illegally detained at the Department of State Security facility, and his next court date is December 15, 2023.
“In preparation for Biafra Government data collection of Biafrans and follow by Biafra self referendum;
“To further put the world on notice that Biafrans are taking their future into their own hands.
“To demand the immediate withdrawal of all Nigeria forces from Biafra territories.
“The sit-at-home will therefore take place in the following order: Friday, December 15 2023, there will be a total lockdown in Biafraland; Saturday, December 16 2023 and Sunday, December 17 2023 (Break), all Biafran markets, places of worships like churches etc will open; Monday, December 18, 2023, to Tuesday, December 19 2023, there will be total lockdown in Biafraland”, he stated.
Recall that despite several court orders demanding the release of Kanu, the Nigerian government has refused to grant him freedom since June 2021, when he was re-arrested.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear Kanu’s case on December 15, 2023.
