You are comfortable in Yobe: Gov. Buni to participants of Quranic competition

The Yobe state Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has assured participants and members of the Organizing Committee of comfortable stay.
Governor Buni, who is the Chief Host of the competition gave the assurance on Friday in Damaturu as he declared open the 38th National Qur’anic Recitation Competition taking place in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
Governor Buni said the importance of the Qur’anic recitation competition apart from the spiritual benefits underscored the commitment of his administration to the state’s policy “on the revitalisation of education that encourages literacy and literary activities in all ramifications of knowledge.”
“Three months ago, I signed the Hisbah bill passed by the House of Assembly into law. This is to provide a legal framework to regulate and promote ethical standards, as well as to check the menace of social vices in communities across the state.
“I am glad to state that this has started yielding positive results, especially in the area of drug abuse and other vices,” he said.
The governor appealed to parents, guardians and the general public to join hands with the state government in the fight against social vices and other unethical behaviours for “a better society and future.”
He also enjoined the local organising committee and the national organisers to strive hard to ensure the success of “this event with adherence to the rules governing the exercise.”
“To the organisers, contestants and everyone, you should feel at home. Indeed, l assure you that you are at home here in Yobe state. Let me use this opportunity to appeal to everyone here to take advantage of the occasion to pray for unity, progress and improved security in our dear country, Nigeria and the world at large.”
