Bwari: 7 Youth ‘nabbed’ over suspicion of involvement in crime

About seven young men were yesterday allegedly picked up by the Police, over suspicion of being involved in some criminal activities in a neighborhood of Bwari Area Council, in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.
It was gathered that the incident which occured at about 10 o’clock in the morning of Thursday, when armed policemen; some in mufti and others in uniform stormed and arrested the suspects, mainly unemployed persons, and took them to the Bwari Police Station.
Also, it was learnt that the police had acted on a petition by residents of the Bwari FCDA quarters to arrest the suspects for interrogation and investigation.
Similarly, the suspects caught in a particular household in the quarters were accused of involvement in some suspected criminal activities in the area.
It was observed that although the policemen while interacting with passers-by who showed concern over the arrest said they were carrying out their duties as instructed from the station.
An eye witness accounts revealed that the security personnel actions were prompted by a purported petition they received from individuals, who expressed fears, in the wake of repeated cases of kidnapping in Bwari and its environs.
However, as at press time, it was not clear whether the suspects were detained for further investigation or released on bail.
When contacted for reaction on the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, who claimed ignorance of the arrest, however promised to find out.
Adeh adds: “But, even if it’s so, we don’t speak on matters under investigation, but I will find out the facts.”
Recall that the FCT Police Command disclosed that there were only pockets of abduction of persons, not over 200 people in Bwari, other FCT communities, in the recent rising wave of attacks by unknown criminal elements.
