The Supreme Court yesterday reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Patrick Tonye-Cole, against the victory of Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the last gubernatorial election.
Tonye-Cole’s appeal is against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), and Fubara.
The case followed from the Appeal Court decision of November 28, which dismissed Tonye-Cole’s appeal for lacking sufficient and convincing evidence.
The APC governorship candidate is contending non-compliance with the Electoral Act, and Fubara’s continued signing of documents as the Rivers State’s Accountant-General after his nomination as the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, as grounds for the appeal.
However, a five-member panel headed by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun reserved judgment on the appeal after all parties in the suit adopted their briefs of arguments.
