The Secretary, FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, Adebayo Benjamins-Laniyi has revealed that no fewer than 3, 072 cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) have been reported in Abuja, the nation’s capital city.
Benjamins-Laniyi who spoke while marking her 100 days in office, said the cases were reported within the period.
She explained that the increase in the number of GBV reported cases in the FCT was due to renewed confidence residents now have in the new authorities in charge of the FCTA.
Benjamins-Laniyi who restated her determination to leave no woman or adolescent behind, said “we have even had men come in to report abuses against them.”
According to her, within 100 days, the Secretariat had carried out GBV sensitization programmes for wives of traditional rulers and Area Council chairmen in the FCT.
She added that her office also celebrated the 2023 UN Women 16 days of advocacy against GBV in FCT, as well as hosted the First Lady’s Renewal Hope Humanitarian Programme for the aged amongst other things within the period under review.
