Fulani/Gbagyi clash: Council boss preaches peace

Following the clash between Gbagyi and Fulani herdsmen in Paikore community in Gwagwalada area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), where about five people were killed and skulls injured, theCouncil’s chairman, Hon. Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has called on both tribes to live in peace with each other, in the area.

Giri, who made the call in an interview with newsmen after visiting the community, at the weekend, assured that security operatives will be deployed to the community to protect lives and property of the residents.

It was gathered that trouble that led to the clash started when heated argument ensued among the Gbagy’s and Fulani herdsmen, after some herdsmen allegedly encroached into farm farms in the area, destroying farmers’ crops.

According to the Chairman, the council would provide the relief materials for the affected victims, as well assettle medical bills of those hospitalized,following the incident.

Speaking earlier, the FCT minister senator Bala Mohammed, who was represented by his Senor Special Assistant on political matters, Alhaji Jibrin Wowo, said that the FCT administration would do everything possible to restorepeace in the community.

The minister also pointed out that the administration was always alert to see that peace and security prevailed in the territory.

On his part, the FCT Director – General of the FCTEmergency management Agency (FEMA), Alhaji Abbas Idrisu, noted thatthe relief materials would be provided for the household of four families whose houses were destroyed during the incident.

Not left out, the chief of Fulani in Paikore, Alhaji Ibrahim Hussaini and madaki of Paikore, Baba Barde Danjuma, said they would continue to preach peace among their people in the area.

Meanwhile, the FCT Administration had already distributed some relief materials to the affected victims.
