From Yakubu Mustapha Minna
Niger State Government has directed the verification and biometric capturing of all local government workers in the state.
The state commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Muazu Hamidu Jantabo, who stated this
while briefing journalists in Minna, said all the twenty five local government chairmen will spearhead the exercise.
He maintained that there is need for the government to know the status and identity of the actual staff in every local government area and those who illegitimately made their way into the respective local government payrolls.
Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state, Comrade Labaran Garba, stressed that the state could not continue to use taxpayers’ money to service the wage bills of ghost workers.
He lamented that the local government system had become a dumping ground for people who think they can corruptly influence the system.
