N-HYPPADEC Commissioners of agriculture to select 3 crops for mass production

The Management of N-HYPPADEC in a meeting with the 10 Commissioners of Agriculture of the commission’s states have resolved on supporting small scale farmers with smallholder machinery, in order to address food security crisis and boost productivity.
This was contained in a communique issued after their meeting presided over by the Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa in Minna.
The member states agreed that improved seeds of rice, maize, sorghum, groundnut, cassava, millet, ginger, soya and sesame, should be provided according to the needs of the member States, with expected intervention by N-HYPPADEC to avail each state with three (3) selected crops quality seeds for allocation to communities based on the needs assessment of the States.
The communique also hinted that the member states and N-HYPPADEC agreed to focus on farming clusters with sustainability model to manage the allocation and utilization of the machines/equipment. Cluster members would pay an affordable rate to the service.
The member states also agreed that in the nearest future, engagements such as the ThaiTAM 2023 study visit should be considered to further understudy the agricultural opportunities that abound in other countries, and also to have technical sessions of knowledge exchange as an addition to the business matching session among others.
The Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC highlighted the Commission’s desire to improve the agricultural activities due to the prevailing food crisis in the country, just as the ten Commissioners of Agriculture applauded the foresight of the management of the commission and assured of their support and cooperation to ensure its success of programs.
