FCT Commandant assures protection of public infrastructure, school

The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, Olusola Odumosu assures the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Christopher Maikalangu of the Corps’ commitment to the protection of Critical National Assets and infrastructure in the FCT.

A statement issued on Friday by CSC Idoko Samuel A. CDPRO FCT, said the Commandant stated this while on a working visit to the AMAC chairman at the Council secretariat in Abuja.

 

He added that through the safe school programme of the Corps, the FCT Command is poised towards the safety of school, protection of students and teachers as well as other educational infrastructure on the territory.

 

According to him, “the era of vandalism of critical infrastructure and national assets such as manhole covers, street lights, traffic lights, roads, bridges, water dams and so on will soon be over in the FCT.

“We are going to sustain the war against other criminal elements, especially vandals that are short changing the citizens of the dividends of democracy.

 

“We are also going to key into the NSCDC safe school programme which saddles us with the responsibility of protecting schools across the country to ensure all public schools are protected and secured.

 

He further reiterated that personnel of the Command have been trained to carry out this special assignment, stressing that, the Command will not rest until success is achieved .

 

He sought for the support and assistance of the chairman and his cabinet to achieve optimum performance and effective delivery of its mandate as enshrined in the NSCDC Act.

Stating that “on  assumption of duty as the Commandant of FCT, I declared war on vandals, I make bold to tell you that we have been recording successes in that area.

 

“Several arrests have been made within the city centre and the suspects charged to court.”

 

“The war is not yet won, so we are determined to double our resolve in this area until we bring an end to vandalism in the FCT.”

 

The Commandant emphasised that the battle against insecurity in the FCT needs the  collective effort of all stakeholders and that the Corps under the leadership of the Commandant General (CG) Dr. Ahmed A. Audi mni, is contributing its quota towards winning this war.

 

He appreciated the executive chairman for his support to its AMAC division in ensuring that they perform their duties of keeping residents of AMAC safe.

In his response, the Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu assured the Commandant of his continued support and that of his cabinet.

 

He said the NSCDC has proven over and over that they are dependable when it comes to the security architecture in the FCT.

 

He commended the leadership of the Corps for the impressive performance of the Corps over the years and charged them not to rest on its oars until FCT becomes safe for all to live and thrive in.
