From Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

A 26-year-old man, Jamilu Ibrahim has dragged one Muhammad Alfa to a Shari’a court, sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna for refusing to allow him marry his daughter (name withheld)
He told the court that the defendant had allegedly refused to allow him to marry his 17-year-old daughter, due to tribal differences.
His words: “ I am Hausa by tribe and my girlfriend is Nupe; and I had tried my best to convince the father to allow us to marry, but he refused, and I love his daughter so much.
“I want the court to intervene in the matter so that we can marry because we love each other.”
On his part, the defendant said he wanted his daughter who was in SS 2 to finish school before marriage, adding that he was not tribalistic.
He said he had begged Ibrahim to leave his daughter alone, so that she could focus on her studies, but to no avail.
He added that his daughter had not slept at home, alleging that the complainant picked her up from school and took her to his place.
“ I want this honourable court to give a binding over restricting Jamilu Ibrahim from meeting my daughter either at school or anywhere else; I don’t want to see him near my daughter”, he stressed.

However, the presiding judge, Malam Anass Khalifa asked the complainant if it was true that the girl was with him, which he said yes, adding that she slept at his sister’s place.
Khalifa therefore ordered the complainant to present his parents in court on February 27, which is the adjourned date for further hearing of the matter.
