Benue govt restates commitment to implement anti-open grazing law

Benue State Government has stated its commitment and determination to enforce the anti-open grazing law to the latter.
Governor Hyacinth Alia stated this on Wednesday while briefing newsmen at Government House, Makurdi after the State Security Council meeting.
Represented by his Deputy Sam Ode, the Governor said the essence of the security meeting was to review the two(2)week ultimatum issued by the council to armed and unarmed herders to vacate the State.
He said the Council monitored the ultimatum as well as reviewed report of a 7 man committee set up which was headed by Force Commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, Maj. Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia.
“Over the last two(2) weeks, we had a peaceful withdrawal and in some cases clearance operation was done. We want to emphasize that the anti-open law is not targeted at any group of persons”, Ode said.
Also, speaking the Force Commander OPWS, Maj. Gen. Sunday Igbinomwanhia explained that they engaged in both non-kinetic and kinetic approach to ensure withdrawal of large influx of herders into the State.
