AMAC: Maikalangu offers free medical care to over 1,000 residents

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has taken medical outreach to the people of Wukara community, in Jiwa ward of the Council, where over 1,000 residents benefited.
A statement from Senior Special Assistant, Media and Public Affairs to AMAC Chairman, Kingsley Madaki, said the exercise was as a result of recent resurgence of chickenpox infection in Wukara and other communities.
“Speaking during a one-day medical outreach at Wukara community, Maikalangu, who was represented by the Supervisory Councilor for Health, Faoye Tunji, said the outbreak of the infection is considered as an emergency.
Maikalangu said: “I want to sincerely thank the AMAC Primary Health Care Department for their swift response to the plight of our people here in Wukara who were affected by the unfortunate outbreak of Chicken Pox.
“I am reliably informed that this exercise is as a result of the resurgence of Chicken pox in some parts of communities which is aptly considered as an emergency. Here in AMAC, the need to be precautious becomes very imperative due to the influx of people daily from all parts of the country.
“We, therefore lament the outbreak of chicken pox recently that befell Wukara and other communities where several households were affected and so many lives were lost. The impact of this calamity has left So many in fear. It is an unfortunate situation and we pray that such will never repeat again.
“To us in the Council, this outbreak is becoming one too many and a permanent solution is urgently needed to prevent further occurrence. I hereby appeal to our people to maintain a healthy life style by sleeping in well ventilated houses, be mindful of the heat and bad weather caused by Climate change and visit our facilities whenever we have any symptom.
“May I also use this medium to appeal to all stakeholders, NGOs and good spirited Nigerians to quickly swing into action to help the affected people avert this ugly occurrence in our communities.
“Once again, I like to appreciate the AMAC PHC, FCTPHCB and other relevant agencies for their kind gesture being extended to this community, this will go a long way in cushioning the devastating effect of the outbreak of this dreaded scourge, Chicken pox on our people.
“On behalf of the Management of the Council, I hereby commiserate with those that lost their loved ones and pray for the repose of the souls that were lost.”
Also speaking, the Program Officer, Disease Control, Health Unit/Department, AMAC, Dr Dorothy Ihegazie, assured that the council is fully prepared to offer medical outreach to the people as drugs are available at the pharmacy, urging the people to cooperate with medical professionals on ground.
Om his part, the Village Chief of Wukara, Alhaji Ibrahim Dallatu, expressed joy with the medical outreach, as it will help to curb any form of disease outreach in the community.
According to the statement, medical experts on ground examined over 1,000 members of the community and administered medications on them.
