Benue govt pledges to uphold independence of State Electoral Commission

Benue State Government has pledged to uphold the independence of the State Independent Electoral Commission, BSIEC to conduct credible election, in the State.
The State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia made the promise during the swearing-in of the Chairman and members of the electoral body at the New Banquet, Government House on Thursday.
The Governor who noted that the members were carefully selected based on their non partisan stands, integrity and unwavering commitment to democratic principles, urged them to uphold the core principles to our thriving democracy.
He also, admonished them to lay foundation to the functionality of the local government system by ensuring consolidation Of democracy at that tier of government, stressing that they must conduct free, fair and credible election that will reflect the desires of the Benue people.
Said he,”The people voices must be heard through their votes. Be resilient to overcome obstacles to achieve prosperity and greatness of the State. You can count on government to give you the full support to carry our your duties.
“You must uphold transparent, credible and inclusive election. Devise realistic time table. Ensure public trust in our democratic institution. Let us all our hands to ensure success our democratic future”.
