COREN approves establishment of Task Force on engineering regulations

Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria( COREN) has approved the establishment of an Engineering Intelligence, Surveillance and Enforcement (EISE) Task Force in the six geo- political zones and Lagos state.
This was contained in a statement signed and issued by COREN’s Registrar Engr. Prof. Adisa, Ademola Bello.
The statement revealed that the decision was made at the end of its 181st Ordinary Council meeting held on Thursday, 7th March, 2024.
The council said one of the functions of task force was to generate intelligence information on the establishment and operations of Engineering Practitioners (Individuals and Firms).
The council also approved “ Establishment of policy for selecting an engaging persons for intelligence information gathering and whistle blowing. Development and standardization of checklist for monitoring and enforcement of engineering regulations among others.”
The council also approved the creation of a Regional Steering Committee in each region to serve as a vital coordinating body tasked with harmonizing the efforts and initiatives of regional and state offices of COREN.
Similarly, Council has also approved the restructuring of some and establishment of; Nine (9) Council Standing Committees (CSCs), Six (6) Technical Sub-Committees responsible to some of the CSCs Ten (10) Sectoral Teams each for Codes and Standards Committee and ERM&E Committee respectively.
The council has called on Modibbo Adama University Yola, Adamawa State and University of Calabar, Cross Rivers State to rectify their abnormalities in their engineering programmes by getting the programmes accredited before the commencement of the next academic session.
The statement noted that failure to rectify their non-accreditation status will result in blacklisting as non accredited institutions .
