20 years after, the 32 General Hospitals in Kaduna have got a new lease of life following the action of Governor Uba Sani, who describes the neglect of the hospitals by successive governments of the State as “totally unacceptable”.
Governor Sani explained that his administration’s decision to ensure the rebouncing of the 32 General Hospitals was informed by his avowal to boost healthcare delivery services for Kaduna citizens.
It would be recalled that in August last year, three months after his swearing-in, Governor Uba Sani equipped the 290 Kaduna State Primary Health Care facilities with state-of-the -art equipment and consumables.
Sani made the revelation on the efforts to enhance the operations of the 32 General Hospitals while receiving APC leaders and supporters from the 23 Local Councils at Government House on Thursday.

The governor was unhappy that residents have been compelled to journey to neighbouring states to seek standard medical treatment.
The governor said there would be no going back, having already embarked on “renovating, rebuilding, and upgrading six general hospitals, with two hospitals being targeted in each of the state’s three Senatorial Zones.
“In the last one month, I have received reports from our deputy governor, who is one of the most prominent, established public health specialists in Nigeria, that our 32 general hospitals in Kaduna as we speak, most of them are not functional”.
“Because of that, most of the patients from Kaduna have to travel to some neighbouring states for medical attention.
“This is unacceptable. That is why we have decided to remodel and reconstruct at least six of the 32 general hospitals.
“We have to invest in healthcare, particularly at the secondary healthcare level. It is simply because most of these hospitals I mentioned have not been given attention in the last 20 years, and that is the reason they are in their current situation, ” he added.
