The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja yesterday, has set aside the warrant of arrest against Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff of the Rivers State Governor, and five others.
It would be recalled that the court granted an arrest warrant on January 31 against Ehie and five others.
The defendants are being prosecuted by the police for their alleged involvement in the burning of Rivers State’s House of Assembly and attempted murder.
In today’s proceedings, Justice Emeka Nwite agreed with the counsel for the defendants that the court lacks jurisdiction to have granted the ex-parte application brought by the Inspector General of Police against Ehie and five others because there was no charge pending before his court.
The court therefore set aside its ex-parte orders of January 31, 2024, issuing a warrant for the arrest of Ehie and five others and declaring them wanted.
