Gray’s International School, Mando, Kaduna has emerged the winner of the 2014 annual Inter-Senior Secondary School Science Quiz

Competition, organised by the Kaduna state branch of Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN).

Gray’s International defeated 23 other secondary schools, drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state to clinch the first position in the

competition.

Speaking at the opening of the competition, Chairman of APWEN, Engr. (Mrs.) Amamat O. Haruna said the annual science quiz competition was

organised in collaboration with Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) to promote interest in science education among secondary school students.

According to her, “we have observed dearth of interest in science subjects among secondary school students, so this science quiz competition is one of the programme we put in place to encourage them to have interest in science subjects.

He equally disclosed that, the society had taken teaching intervention and career talk to secondary schools to encourage the students to pick interest, not only in science subjects, but to get some of them to choose engineering as a career for the development of the country.

However, at the end of the competition, the three schools that emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd, that is; Gray’s International School, Christ High School and Our Lady of Fatima Girls Secondary Schools were given prizes.

Participants from five other schools who made it to the finals were also given consolation prizes, as they were encouraged to work harder ahead of the 2015 edition of the competition .
