Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, on Monday, flagged off the distribution of farm inputs, farm implements, and agro-processing equipment to 40,000 smallholder farmers under his ‘A Koma Gona’, Back to Farm initiative.
The flag-off ceremony, which is part of the programs lined up for the celebration of his one year in office, took place in the Ikara Local Government area, targeting the beneficiaries in the Northern Senatorial Zone of the state.
Governor Sani who noted that Kaduna is the largest producer of ginger, maize, as well as tomatoes in Nigeria, lamented that farmers suffer post-harvest losses, especially in perishable produce like tomatoes.
He therefore vowed that his administration will revisit the aborted plan to establish a tomato processing plant in Ikara, to address the losses suffered by tomato farmers in Ikara and surrounding local governments.
Addressing the farming community at the event, Governor Sani who expressed delight to be with the farmers said, “Agriculture remains the backbone of our economy, providing employment and sustaining livelihoods. Kaduna State is blessed with huge agricultural potential.
