The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, has congratulated young Nigerians as they mark the Children’s Day on Monday.
Nigeria marks the Children’s Day on May 27 of every year.
Speaker Abbas, on the occasion, called for better welfare and protection of the Nigerian child by both the government, parents, guardians, teachers, clerics, and other stakeholders.
He stated that the society, and not just the parents, should collectively work towards giving the child proper upbringing.
While decrying the high number of out-of-school children, the Speaker noted that the 10th House is doing everything legislatively possible to ensure that every child is educated in Nigeria.
He, therefore, called on the government at all levels to make the Nigerian children have unfettered access to education, while urging parents to support authorities in this regard.
Speaker Abbas commended the state governments that have domesticated and are enforcing the Child Rights Act, while urging others to take the bold step. He noted that the law, if fully implemented by all stakeholders, will have a huge positive impact on the lives of young Nigerians.
Speaker Abbas wished Nigerian children happy celebrations, while urging them to shun all forms of vices.
Also the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has saluted Nigerian Children on this year’s Children’s Day, reiterating the parliament’s commitment to legislations protecting basic rights of children.
The day, which is celebrated on May 27 annually, is dedicated to celebrating children all over the world.
