FG moves to bolster national procurement system

The Director General of Bureau of Public Procurement BPP Mamman Ahmadu has disclosed that the federal government has implemented several strategic initiatives to bolster the national procurement system in recent years.

He made this known yesterday in Abuja while delivering a goodwill message at the Procurement Excellence Programme CIPS workshop. He explained that the initiatives are designed to address existing challenges and create more robust, efficient and transparent procurement process.

According to him, “some of the strategies include, implementation of E-procurement platforms, strengthening regulatory oversight, capacity building and professional development and commitment to sustainable practices.”

He added that the workshop underscored the collective dedication to improving the efficiency and reliability of health supplies procurement across Nigeria.

“Our unified efforts are crucial for the success of pooled procurement initiatives which will play a pivotal role in strengthening our health system and align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda for health,” according to him.

Speaking also the Head of Procurement Excellent Programme in African countries, Alan Martins explained that the essence of the workshop is to make sure that the people of Nigeria have access to medical quality healthcare.

“We ensure that there is procurement per Excellency in the country both in the urban and rural areas” he stated.

The HPA country director, in Nigeria, Chukwudi Uche said that the organisation is more efficient and can drive down the cost of medicines, while also getting quality medical health. You can see that this is very crucial when it comes to renewed hope agenda for health.

The Minister of health came out of budget defence on December eight and made a twit, and one of the cardinal points of the initiatives he was looking at when it comes to availability and affordability of health products, especially for the vulnerable is group procurement.

That is why as an organisation we felt that we need to key into the agenda of the government. You don’t just wake up and start carrying out procurement. In fact beyond this workshop, what we do is to let procurement professionals to understand a couple of things that they need to do to help them.

Described as a crucial Technical Procurement Workshop, themed “Ask the Experts Technical Session,” the event aims to lead global excellence in procurement and supply, gathering key stakeholders from various sectors.
