The maiden edition of Security Swimming championship, meant for all security agencies personnel or relatives will hold in Enugu State next week.
Organisers of the competition, the Enugu State Swimming Association announced that the championship will hold on Thursday, 27th June 2024 at the DeAngelo Hotel, GRA, Enugu, adding that registration for the competition is free.
Chairman of Enugu Swimming Association, Hon. Madus Mathias who bried the media in Enugu said a minimum of 50 swimmers are expected to be part of the championship
“The registration for the championship is free for security men that may wish to participate. We made it strictly for the security personnel and their relations. We are expecting a minimum of 50 swimmers to be part of the competition.” he said. Adding that different prizes would be won during the competition to motivate the athletes.
Mathias said that the championship became necessary to enable the security personnel who love swimming to keep fit which in the long run would culminate in their optimum performance.
He commended the Enugu State governor, Dr Peter Mbah for providing an enabling environment as well as investing in sporting activities in the state, adding that the efforts of the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Barrister Iloyd Ekweremadu have also been wonderful.
On his part, the Enugu State Director of Sports, Ephraim Ochoma, noted that the swimming championship is a welcome development, stressing that they want to encourage the other sports other than football.
“We want to revive other sports like Swimming. We need to diversify and Swimming has many medals. We want to be able to raise a Swimming team for Enugu State.
He lauded the Swimming Association for coming up with the tournament.
