The Advocacy for Disability Act (ADAC), has commended applauds the Gombe State House of House Assembly for passing Gombe State Disability Protection Law and establishment of Gombe State Disability Commission and other Matters related, for second reading.
ADAC described the move by the Assembly as “keeping to the integrity of their word on the move for an inclusive legislation by attending to the a Bill. “
ADAC is a consortium of five Civil Society Organizations (CSO), Joint Association of Persons with Disability (JONPWD) Gombe State Chapter, Gombe State Network of Civil Society (GONET) and Association of Non-Governmental Organization (ANGO) Gombe state.
The five Civil Society Organizations are El-New Hope Foundation, Abia State; Global Youth Empowerment and Vulnerable Initiative, Adamawa State; Lawanti Development Community Foundation, Gombe State; Center for Peace Education and Community Development, Taraba State and the Inclusive Friends Association (IFA), Abuja.
The Cluster is implementing the Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) through Palladium funded by USAID.
According to a statement issued signed by Grace Jerry, ADAC Cluster Anchor and Executive Director, Inclusive Friends Association (IFA), the ADAC Cluster joins the population of over a half a million (594,015) Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Gombe State to applaud the Gombe State House of Assembly for this feat.
It further said ADAC was proud of the state Assembly under the leadership of Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Muhammad Luggerewo for prioritizing a Bill for the Gombe State Disability Protection Law and establishment of Gombe State Disability Commission and other Matters related on Tuesday June 11, 2024 for the first and second reading.
It said: “Achieving a legislative landmark on the eve of Democracy Day celebration demonstrates the commitment and the dedication of the Gombe State House of Assembly to democratic values and responsiveness to the community of Persons with Disabilities which makes them a pacesetter to other Assemblies.
“The commitment to prioritize the reading of the Bill Gombe State Disability Protection Law and establishment of Gombe State Disability Commission and other Matters related at the Gombe State Assembly no doubt resonates with the commitment of House Committee on Education, Hon. Shuaibu Adamu representing Kwami East Consistency during the ADAC Legislative Retreat to Harnessing Legislative Support on the Gombe and Taraba State Disability Bill at the City Green Hotel, Jimeita Yola, held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023.
“ADAC commend Hon. Shuaibu Adamu representing Kwami East Consistency who privately sponsored the Bill along with Hon. Musa Buba representing Balanga North, Hon. Nasiru Abdulkareem representing Dukku North and Hon. Adamu Sale Pata representing Yalmatu East as co-sponsors.”
It called on members of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Special Duties , saddled with a six -weeks period of working on the Bill, to continue in the professionalism of the Assembly to speed up their reviews within the mandated period.
“The ADAC believes that a dawn of reality to the words of the inclusive Gombe State Governor, His Excellency Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya will come to a reality in the shortest possible time.”
