Former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, believes that playing Efe Ambrose as a full-back will not bring out the best in him.
Lennon, who acted as Celtic manager between 2010 and 2014, is of the view that Ambrose will thrive as a centre-back since “he doesn’t have the technique to cross the ball.”
The former Northern Ireland international further explained that he always preferred the Super Eagles defender in a centre-back during his reign as Celtic manager.
However, Lennon said he understands why the Nigeria head coach, Stephen Keshi, likes to deploy Ambrose in a right-back role.
“You can see why I played him at centre-half at Celtic. I think Stephen Keshi plays him in that position because he likes to be well-structured defensively, and Efe gives you that. But he doesn’t have the technique to cross the ball.
“He is good at coming inside and looking for a shorter pass, but he can’t cross the ball.
“He has what’s called ‘a curly toe’, you know you want to ping the ball straight but it tends to die towards the end. Efe has one of those, I’m afraid,” Lennon was quoted in one of the Scottish dailies.
