BON Sports distributes palliative to less privileged

BON Sports Promotion and Events Ltd has distributed palliative and empowered some orphans, widows, widowers and less privileged civilians, military and paramilitary families in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event was a part of the just concluded 1st BON Amateur Senior Citizens Golf tournament, which was held at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja.

The presentation, which took place at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Golf Club, NAF Base, saw no less than 100 lives touched and empowered with items ranging from food items, clothes and scholarships.

Bose Ngozi Onwuegbu, the CEO of BON Sports Promotion and Events Ltd, told newsmen that the idea behind the presentation was to give back to the vulnerable and less privileged in the society.

“I grew up with my grandmother due to the death of my father at an early age and the inability of my mum to take care of us as we barely struggled to make ends meet.

“In the course of growing up, I saw how people pass through pains. Some could barely afford to eat and go to school.

“I told God that if I had an opportunity or a platform to help these less privileged ones, I would not hesitate to do so. So, helping the poor is something that comes naturally to me.

“It is not only in TYB and GEJ that we have imparted the lives of people. We have also organised one in Ibadan as well as in Port Harcourt.

“Before now, I have been doing other things in the background. I have children in kindergarten, primary, secondary schools, and universities that I have been personally taking care of.

“About 500 of them are graduating this year by the special grace of God, and BON Sports Promotion is also catering to the needs of their parents.

“I was also recognised and given an award in Qatar for the little things I do to as an entrepreneur in the Middle East and in Africa,” she said.

Onwuegbu called on other well-meaning Nigerians and philanthropists to come on board and help support the less privileged and vulnerable, adding that the government can not do it alone.

Navy Commodore Matthew Onwuegbu, the husband to the organiser, noted that giving back to the society was necessary,adding that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

“Usually, it is expected that one gives back out of the much he or she has received as this pleases God and attracts even more blessings from Him.

“When we do this, the world becomes a better place for us all to live in.

“This is why I always encourage my wife to give back a part of whatever she gets from her golf tournaments to the society to help those who are in need,” he said.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to newsmen thanked BON for the good job she has been doing over the years and for the heart to give out of the little God has given her.
