The Korean Cultural Centre, Nigeria brought excitement to many Nigerian youths with the screening of “Chunhyang Escape”.

“Sac on Screen” a performing arts screening production organized by Seoul Arts Center that enables the audience to enjoy outstanding cultural arts content free of charge with no boundaries and unlimited time.

“Chunhyang Escape” shown Thursday at the KCCN Abuja was a classic iconic Korea bestseller in its time that tells a love story that transcends social status between Lee Mong-ryong, a nobleman and Chunhyang, a daughter of a gisaeng.

It was video screening of a pre-recorded musical opera and one of the best-known love stories and folk tales of Korea.

Speaking during the event, Chidinma Tobins, Administrative Officer of the Korean Cultural Centre, Nigeria (KCCN) Abuja informed that Korea was big on history, saying the movie was made in 1600 and has been remade in many forms.

“It keeps changing form. This is more like musical opera. The whole idea is communicating Korea folktale through modern means which is like opera, singing and comedy just to make people enjoy it a little more.

“We always done it once in a year, but it has been done thrice this year. It is focused on love because love is something we all need. The real love is choosing to be with someone without attaching anything to it. It is about acceptance. Accepting the fact that we all have our weakness and accepting someone as he is, nothing attached. That is the message it is trying to communicate” she noted.

One of the participants, Adeyemi Charles Dawodu, a civil servant said the show was entertaining, nice and creative capable of making one to rethink love and affection.

Dawodu thanked KCCN for putting the event together saying that it served as a way of cultural exchange and synergy between Nigerians and Koreans, noting that it had made him to learn a lot about Korea way of life.
