Katsina approves N600m for work bulls, other inputs

Katsina, May 27, 2014 (NAN) The Katsina State Government on Tuesday approved N600 million for the purchase of work bulls and production of local farm implements.

Gov. Alhaji Ibrahim Shema, disclosed this in Katsina while inaugurating a committee for the distribution of the work bulls and other farm implements to the farmers in the state on loan.

He said that gesture was aimed at encouraging farmers to continue to engage in farming activities and enhance food production.

Shema said that his administration would also empower members of blacksmith industry in the state and urged the fabricators to produce quality farm tools that would last longer.

The governor, however, urged the committee to ensure  that only genuine farmers benefit from the loan facility.

Responding, the Chairman of the committee, who is also the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Adamu, assured the governor that the committee would go round the state to select genuine farmers.

Adamu commended the state government for initiating numerous projects aimed at improving agricultural production to guarantee food security in the state.
