From Uche Nnorom, Makurdi

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Benue Investment and Property Company,BIPC Dr. Raymond Asemakaha has lamented over the high rate of capital flight from the State as a result of exploitative attitude of middlemen/market associations.
He therefore, recommended that a Marketing Board be established to curb the excesses of the middlemen/market association.
Dr. Asemakaha who said this at the weekend in Makurdi during the workshop on Economic Reporting organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel in conjunction with BIPC, averred that the Marketing Board will regulate prices of goods arbitrarily fixed by marketing associations.
He decried that goods/products are too expensive in the Food Basket State, observing that most people prefer to travel to Nasarawa and Taraba States to purchase items because they are less expensive in those states.
‘There is so much corruption in market places in the State hence the urgent need to check this trend so as to stop capital flight from the State.
“BIPC have a commitment to better the lives of the people that is why we have engaged over 218 youths in our Bakery, Water factory and we intend to engage more when the BenFruit Company is unveiled in December.”
