Judge grants alleged drug trafficker N2m bail

A Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday granted bail in the sum of N2 million to a 42-year- old accused, Benjamin Chukwu, facing charges of alleged drug trafficking.

The accused was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a one-count charge bordering on the offence.

He was arraigned on June 17 and had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Justice Mohammed Yunusa had however ordered the remand of the accused at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending the determination of a bail application filed by his counsel, Mrs. Williams Ekwe.

Delivering his ruling on the application for the bail of the accused, Yunusa admitted him to bail in the sum of N2 million, with two sureties in like sum.

The judge added that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, and must show evidence of a tax clearance.

He adjourned the case till Oct. 16, for substantive trial. (NAN)
