The newly constructed Jigawa airport would commence the commercial airlift of passengers from the state to other parts of the country by July 14, this year.

Stating this yesterday, when the Managing Director of Overland Airways paid him a courtesy visit in his office, the state governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido said the airport would witness the initial take-off of government officials travelling to Abuja for a meeting and would be celebrated with fanfare.

Lamido, who also charged the consultant handling the airport project, said all the required materials necessary for a full pledged operation must be put in place within the next six weeks to allow for other operations to take place.

Lamido assured that the international transportation would soon commence, with the airlift of Hajj pilgrims from the state.

He said, “We, in Jigawa, don’t make noise; but rather, allow our work to speak for us and mark us by our words; that after we must have left office you should come and take stock of our achievements”.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Overland Airlines, Captain Edward Boyo said the Jigawa state airport has proved to the best in the country.

Captain Boyo said air transportation is a gateway for any serious state that wants to sell its state to the world.
