A group, Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), yesterday commended the Federal Government, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security forces, the political parties and the Ekiti State people for the peaceful conduct and outcome of the last Saturday’s governorship election.
TAN also said the decision of the Ekiti state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, in accepting defeat and congratulating the winner of the governorship election is an implicit manifestation of a true democrat that he is.
In a statement issued in Abuja, TAN’s Director of Communications & Strategy, Dr. Udenta. O. Udenta, said, “Given the impressive turnout of voters across the State, the peaceful conduct of the exercise which has been generally acclaimed to be free and fair, and the spirit of sportsmanship demonstrated by the contenders, it is yet another refreshing moment for Nigeria.”
While congratulating the Governor-elect, Mr. Ayo Fayose, on his landslide victory, TAN said it commends the incumbent Governor, Kayode Fayemi for exhibiting maximum equanimity to accept defeat without much ado.
“We therefore enjoin the Governor-elect, Mr. Fayose to display an uncommon magnanimity to share his victory with the losers. The era of the-winner-takes-all is dead and buried in all climes.
“The common denominator is that all sons and daughters of Ekiti State must close ranks and work towards moving their agrarian state to the next level.
“Indeed, the outcome of the 2014 Ekiti gubernatorial election is proof of the huge success of President Goodluck Jonathan’s Transformation Agenda. We congratulate all Nigerians on the peaceful conduct of the election.
