The Civil Society Network on Economic and Social Advancement (CSNOESA) calls for immediate reforms within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL )to ensure greater transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of the nation’s vital oil resources.
The group states that this bold move aims to combat alleged corruption and mismanagement within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Abuja, the national spokesperson for CSNOESA, Abubakar Yale, expressed deep concern over the state of NNPCL under Kyari’s leadership.
He emphasized the critical need for the NNPC to address ongoing issues related to fuel scarcity, financial transparency, and the overall governance of the company.
The group expresses deep disappointment over the persistent fuel shortages affecting various parts of the country, with prices reportedly reaching as high as N1,500 per liter in some areas.
He underscored the importance of ensuring that Nigeria’s refineries operate optimally, a goal that has remained elusive despite previous assurances.
Abubakar also highlighted concerns about the NNPC’s financial management, particularly the need for transparent handling of oil sales revenue and compliance with directives aimed at bolstering local refining capacity.
“CSNOESA calls for a thorough review of the company’s operations and contracts, advocating for adherence to global best practices in the oil and gas industry.”
CSNOESA announced plans to launch a nationwide campaign to gather one million signatures, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action in addressing these pressing issues.
“CSNOESA is organizing a peaceful demonstration on August 22, 2024, at the NNPC Limited headquarters, calling for reforms that will strengthen the company’s commitment to the Nigerian people.
“Our nation’s future and the well-being of our people are at stake,” .
“We must ensure that the NNPC is managed with the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and professionalism, for the benefit of all Nigerians.”
The call for reforms comes at a time when Nigeria’s oil sector is under intense scrutiny, with many advocating for better management of the country’s natural resources.
