Inhabitants of Matusgi village under Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State on Wednesday defied attack by a large number of armed bandits who invaded the village.
Our reporter gathered that over hundreds of armed bandits stormed the community on Wednesday.
However, people of Matusgi village who, having been informed of possible invasion, came out in their numbers, armed with local weapons including fabricated guns and waited for the arrival of the bandits.
According to a local identified as Abubakar Nura, “unlike previous times when everybody hide in fear, this time, the bandits unexpectedly received fire power from the locals.
“The bandits, while struggling to escape into a nearby bush, returned fire on the locals and killed three people.
“Even before the bandits retreated, there were already twenty five corpses of their members killed by the flying locally made ammunitions fired by the locals in defense of the community.
“As the bandits narrowly escaped, they followed the only route that runs a few kilometers, neighboring Magamin Diddi village under Maradun local government area. The inhabitants in that village also ambushed and opened fire on the fleeing terrorists and killed ten more bandits”.
