The Middle Belt Solidarity League (MBSL) has voiced strong opposition to the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) recent calls for the release of its president, Joe Ajaero, and their demands for a reduction in fuel prices.
In a scathing statement, signed MBSL Chairman,Fidelis Riyom, and Martha Bako, Secretary labeled the NLC’s actions as hypocritical and accused the labor body of shielding Ajaero from facing justice.
The statement emphasized the importance of holding accountable those who seek to undermine Nigeria’s democracy.
According to the MBSL, the NLC’s sudden concern over fuel prices is an attempt to divert attention from Ajaero’s alleged involvement in treasonous activities.
The group pointed out that the NLC was silent when fuel prices were previously increased to accommodate salary hikes demanded by the union, making their current outcry disingenuous.
Fidelis Riyom, Chairman of the MBSL, stated: “Ajaero’s involvement in harboring a foreigner to finance violent protests aimed at destabilizing the government crosses the line into treason.
His arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) is justified, and no one is above the law.”
The MBSL urged the DSS to continue its investigation into the matter and to keep a close watch on all suspected accomplices in what they described as an undemocratic plot.
The group also condemned the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo, for attempting to interfere with the investigation, calling his actions “misguided.”
The MBSL called on Nigerians to support efforts to uphold the rule of law, stating that justice must be served swiftly for anyone who violates the nation’s laws.
