 The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA), Abuja operation Office and FCT emergency management agency have distributed relief assistance to the victims of recent rainstorms disaster in Sabon-Garin Bassa community, Kwali area council, Abuja.

Presenting the relief items, the head of NEMA Abuja operation office (FEMA), Mr. Ishaya Chonoko said, “It was important that the local government area council establish a Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC).

He further educated the community on immediate actions to take in emergencies and preventive measures, such as planting trees as wind-breakers, in order to reduce or stop future occurrences of such destructions.

Speaking, the Director-General (D-G) FEMA Alhaji Abbas Idris appealed to the community to be conscious with their environment and be security alerts. He urged them to report any disaster issues that occur using the help line provided and advised the Chairman to do more in his efforts.

The chairman, Kwali local government area council, Mr. Daniel Ibrahim commended the two the agencies for the intervention and relentless efforts of coming to their aid. He explained that the items were not to compensate, but to provide succor to the people.

Receiving the relief materials on behalf of the community, the Sarkin Wako, Sabon-Garin Bassa community, thanked the NEMA and FCT SEMA for providing the relief items.

Items distributed include 20 bags of rice, 20 bags of beans, 20 mattresses, 20 buckets, 50 roofing sheets, 20 pillows, 20 buckets, 100 bags of cement, 10 bags of zinc nails and 10 bags of roofing nails.
