The China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria, in collaboration with the China Cultural Center, distributed various gifts to Nigerians and Chinese participants to mark the 2024 Mid-Autumn Festival.

The event, held in Abuja on Saturday, saw attendees receive electronic devices, TV boxes, dining vouchers, and health products.

The festival, one of the most significant in Chinese culture, has been celebrated for over 3,000 years.

Li Xuda, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, explained that the Mid-Autumn Festival symbolizes family reunion, friendship, and the belief that hard work leads to fruitful results.

“Like the popular Nigerian proverb, ‘united we stand, divided we fall,’ this festival celebrates unity and togetherness,” he said.

Li emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural exchange between China and Nigeria, promising greater cooperation in promoting both tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

He also highlighted the significance of the moon during the festival, which is typically celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.

One of the Nigerian recipients, Michael Olubode, expressed gratitude after receiving a dining voucher worth 1 million naira.

He extended his well-wishes to the Chinese community, appreciating the initiative as a symbol of goodwill and cultural unity.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, continues to serve as a bridge between China and Nigeria, fostering deeper ties through cultural exchange.
