NSCDC trains 135 personnel on arms, weapon handling

As a way to curb the challenges of vandalism and other vices hampering the peace and development of the Federal Capital Territory in particular, and the Nation as a whole, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) has trained 135 of its personnel in basic arms and weapon handling.

Speaking at the passing out parade of the first set of officers trained on basic arms in Abuja, Commandant of the FCT command, Dr. Olushola Odumosu urged the graduands to discharge their duties with all sincerity.

He further told them to always remember the rules of engagement, be professional in handling riffles, protect themselves, riffle and also protect lives and properties.

He said “from January this year till date, the Command has arrested over one hundred and twenty persons suspected to have engaged in vandalizing public facilities and theft. Out of these numerous cases, we have secured many court convictions and many are pending.

“With this new set of trainees, the Command is better positioned to surpass our achievements so far in the fight against vandalism and the protection of lives and properties.
That you are standing here today strong and gallant despite the tough exercise, is a sign that FCT can trust you, Nigeria can rely on you for protection.

” Remember, to whom much is given, much is expected. In the discharge of your duties, always remember the rules of engagement, be professional in handling your riffles, protect yourself, protect your riffle, protect lives and property.

In his address, FCT minister, Nyesom Wike said with this kind of training, more critical assets and national infrastructure will be well protected.

The minister who was represented by Adamu Buba Gwari maintained that threat level to the nation’s infrastructure particularly the rail facility which has been bedeviled by vandalism will be a thing of the past.

Head of training of NSCDC DCC Hassan Idaya said the 135 personnel have shown high level of dedication, resilience and discipline over the last eight weeks of rigorous training in their journey to become professionals at handling arms.
