Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa state has said a special school to cater for the needs of the children of the displaced persons and a clinic to prevent the spread of epidemics would be set up at the IDPs camp in Lafia.
Al-makura who conducted an inspection tour of the camp facility located at the Al-majiri Model School in Shabu area of Lafia, promised to provide necessary facilities to make the stay of Taraba state displaced persons who fled from the communal crises in Ibi and Wukari and now taking refuge at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Lafia, Nasarawa state comfortable.
He stated that he is working in synergy with his Taraba state counterpart to see that the IDPs are well catered for while awaiting their eventual return back home.
“A doctor will be stationed here to look after your health and that of your children. We must all be careful so that diseases are not spread because of your number “he told the IDPs.
Meanwhile the Taraba state government has donated the sum of 10million Naira to displaced persons fleeing from the communal crises in Ibi and Wukari and now taking refuge at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Lafia, Nasarawa state.
Presenting the cash donation, Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Joshua Sabo Kente, who visited the IDPs in Lafia at the weekend, informed the displaced persons that the state government is working round the clock to ensure that peace return to the trouble spots so that they can go back to their homes.
He told journalists shortly after visiting the IDP camp in Shabu area of the city that it was a minor misunderstanding that would have been nib in the bud which led to the crisis, blaming it on the inability of the people to retrain their anger, resorting to taking up arms against each other.
While acknowledging that the Wukari incidence was indeed a religious crisis, the Speaker however denied insinuations that the mayhem was carried out purposely to send some people away from the area.
“There is no truth in such claims whatsoever. Agreed it was a religious crisis but it was caused by a minor misunderstanding that could have been nip in the bud” he explained.
He said the Taraba state government is working tirelessly to see that the area is made safe for all those that flee to return home.
