Philippines to acquire 7 hectares of land for university branch in Kwara

AMA University, a private institution in Philippines is set to establish a branch in Ilorin, Kwara state on a temporary site of seven hectares of land.

Similarly, the state government is set to sack teachers with Ordinary National Diploma and Higher National Diploma (OND,HND) from Civil Service Commission.

Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Saka Onimago, who confirmed this development during a post state executive council meeting said the council has approved the old premises of the Teachers College as a temporary site for the Philippines University.

Onimago said the University is a private institution and it would be founded by government of Philippines stressing that the state government was only providing a temporary site for the foreign institution.

The Commissioner also disclosed that the Council approved the re-training of Teachers of primary schools in the state with National Certificate of Education (NCE) and those without primary school as area of specialisation stressing that about 4,333 of them have shown interest.

He disclosed that the Council mandated Office of Head of Service (HOS) in collaboration with Civil Service Commission to single out all teachers in the state with OND and HND certificates for “ease out”, of the service and replace them with qualified teachers.

The Commissioner for education said the ease out of such teachers with OND and HND certificates will be “systematic” and that the exercise was in accordance with education reform of the present administration.

Onimago said the state has 21,000 teachers with NCE and those without primary school education as area of specialisation and all of them will be encouraged to further their education on the needed field in affiliated institutions in the state.

In another development, the state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Kayode Issa, also confirmed the approval of the Council on establishment of Premium Amenity Ward by Kwara Holding Limited which when completed will serve as VIP award.

Issa said the ward will be established within the Ilorin General Hospital which has just been rehabilitated.
