President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund.
At a brief ceremony in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where the annual ceremony ws held, Tinubu commended the Armed forces for their role as the first line of defence in protecting the country.
The President specifically highlighted the roles played by the country’s military in combating all threats to Nigeria’s national security.
It will be impossible to promote peace and development without security, hence the patriotic commitment of the Armed forces to Nigeria’s unity, stability and progress remains invaluable, President Tinubu said.
Appreciating of the efforts of Nigeria’s fallen heroes to national security, the Secretary to the government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, pledged a donation of N500million on behalf of officials of government.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on behalf of the National Assembly made a donation of N200 million naira, while the Chief of Defence of Staff, Christopher Musa announced a donation of N50million naira on behalf of Service Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is usually commemorated every January 15 to honour fallen heroes who staked their lives in protecting the country and its citizens.
The 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day will mark the second edition President Tinubu will be hosting the event since he became President.
The President, his Vice, Kashim Shettima, President of the Senate, Chief Justice of the Federation among others are expected to lay wreath in honour of the fallen heroes on that day.
