There was pandemonium yesterday along the busy Kachia road, in Kaduna-South local government area of Kaduna state, when an abandoned bag created a panic situation, as a passer-by suspected it to contain an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which caused residents of the area to run helter skater for their safety.

The development led to a terrible traffic jam, which resulted in many motorists diverting from the road.

The Police Anti-Bomb Squad who were earlier alerted, arrived the scene at about 5 p.m., a rush hour, and condoned off the area which is close to the famous Queen Amina college. However, the squad later left the scene without finding or detonating any bomb.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the state Police Command, SP Aminu Lawan said the bomb scare was as a result of vigilance on the path of the people. He however assured the people that the anti-bomb squad has not found anything that could cause a kind of panic as experienced.

He called on people to go about their lawful businesses and report any suspicious movement around them. As at the time of filing in this report, many commuters along Kachia road were still stranded, as the buses that earlier diverted did not return back to the route.
